Floor Mode

Floor Mode (/floor) is the screen the people doing the work actually use. No admin chrome, giant tap targets, one job at a time.

It is the last nav entry on purpose: opening it leaves the admin behind. The whole shell is replaced by the scanner surface.

  • The five jobs
  • Where you work, and the ⋯ menu
  • Scanning with the phone camera
  • Install it on the phone or tablet
  • The same work as the office
  • No search on the floor
  • Where to next

Today starts with where you work: a zone or a station. Someone working zone A opens the app onto zone A’s work and nothing else.

Everything else sits behind ⋯ in the top corner of every screen, so the task keeps the screen:

  • This line and This task — what the job allows right now, such as reporting a bin empty or giving a pick list back.
  • This device — the screen (Bright, Dim, or follow the device), the text size, whether this device has a scanner, and on a shared scanner who is signed in (Lock screen, or Not you?).

A person holding a scanner and a box needs the next job, not a settings page: these few choices are all the floor has.

No scanner at hand? Every scan field has Scan with camera. Point the camera at the barcode; a read counts like a scanned code. Hold a label in view and it counts once; move the camera away and back to scan it again. The camera turns off when you close it or leave the screen.

The camera reads the common barcodes on items, bins and labels (EAN, UPC, Code 128, Code 39, QR and Data Matrix).

Floor Mode can live on the home screen like an app. On Android, open it in Chrome and choose Install app or Add to Home screen. On an iPhone or iPad, open it in Safari, tap Share and then Add to Home Screen. It opens full screen, straight into the floor, and still signs in with your Floormode login.

Floor Mode is the same Floormode, drawn for the floor: the same orders, the same pick lists, the same stock — full screen instead of inside the admin.

That is why the floor and the office never disagree: a pick confirmed on a tablet in the aisle is the same record the office sees update in the queue, not a copy that catches up later.

Floor Mode is also reachable in standalone mode, at its own URL with its own login — which is how warehouse staff who have no Shopify admin account get to it on a shared tablet.
