Compatible hardware

Floormode runs in the browser, so you don’t need special hardware to start. A phone camera scans, and labels download as PDFs. The devices below make the warehouse faster. For each kind, this page says what Floormode needs, then names one device we know fits.

Floormode treats a scanner like a very fast keyboard. Any scanner that types what it reads works: keyboard mode (HID), which most scanners use out of the box. Choose a 2D scanner: it reads the codes on items, bins and labels (EAN, UPC, Code 128, Code 39, QR and Data Matrix).

  • At the pack station: a corded USB scanner. It needs no pairing and never runs flat. Our pick: Tera D5100Y
  • On the floor: a cordless Bluetooth scanner, paired with the phone or tablet that runs Floor Mode. Our pick: Tera HW0009

No scanner yet? Every scan field also has Scan with camera.

Shipping labels come as 4 × 6 in (100 × 150 mm) thermal labels (ZPL) or as a PDF. With PrintNode connected, a bought label prints straight at the station. Any 4 × 6 thermal printer with a Windows or macOS driver works through PrintNode. A ZPL printer, such as a Zebra, takes the ZPL label directly. The same printer prints your bin labels.

Our pick: Phomemo PM241-BT (100 × 150 mm, direct thermal, USB, drivers for Windows and macOS)

Use 100 × 150 mm direct-thermal labels on a roll or fanfold that fits your printer. Direct thermal needs no ink or ribbon.

Our pick: Labelident 100 × 150 mm thermal labels

The pack station reads the parcel’s weight from a USB scale in Chrome or Edge. Use a standard shipping scale, such as a Dymo M-series or a Mettler PS-series. Choose it once with Connect scale, and a steady reading fills the weight by itself.

Our pick: DYMO M10

Floor Mode runs on any current phone or tablet in the browser, and you can install it like an app. A tablet gives pickers and packers a bigger screen, and a cordless scanner pairs with it.

Our pick: Apple iPad

Computers for the office and the pack station

Section titled “Computers for the office and the pack station”

Any current computer with Chrome or Edge runs the app and the pack station. The browser is what matters, because the scale connects through it.

Our pick: Apple MacBook Air
