Receiving
Receiving (/inventory/receiving) is where goods arriving are booked in and reconciled. It shows what you are expecting, how far each delivery has been booked in, where expected and received disagree, and what still needs putting away.

Booking goods in: the desk and the floor
Section titled “Booking goods in: the desk and the floor”Goods can be booked in two ways, and both write the same receipt:
- At the desk. Open a receipt and use Receive on a line: enter the quantity and, if you want, the bin. Leave the bin empty and Floormode suggests one. This suits a delivery checked against a paper delivery note.
- On the floor. Floor Mode → receive books in by scanning the item, confirming the quantity and scanning the bin.
What happens after: the warehouse’s receiving policy
Section titled “What happens after: the warehouse’s receiving policy”Where received goods go first is the warehouse’s receiving policy (Settings → Warehouses, the warehouse’s Receiving card):
| Policy | Received goods go to | The next job |
|---|---|---|
| Straight to a shelf | The bin the receiver scans, or the suggested shelf | None: putaway happens as goods are received. |
| Dock, put away later | DOCK-01 | A put-away task brings them to a shelf on the floor. |
| Dock with inspection | QC-IN-01 | An inspection: passed units go to DOCK-01 and get a put-away task; failed ones go to HOSP-01 or QUAR-01. |
Goods on the dock or in inspection are on hand but not offered for sale until they reach a sellable shelf.
Reading a receipt
Section titled “Reading a receipt”Open a receipt (/inventory/receiving/:id) to compare expected against received, line by line. Each receipt carries a status:
| Status | Means |
|---|---|
| Expected | Announced, nothing booked in yet |
| Being received | Partly booked in |
| Received | Complete |
| Cancelled | Withdrawn |
Under the lines sits putawayPutawayMoving received goods from the receiving area to the bin they belong in. With the receiving policy **Straight to a shelf** it happens during receiving; with a dock policy a put-away task follows the receipt (after the inspection, where the policy inspects). A work order's finished goods that Floormode books onto the workbench bin `WO-STAGE-01` get a put-away task too; an output that needs the receiver (serial numbers, or a date Floormode cannot work out) is received on its receipt instead. Read more → : received goods sitting in a receiving bin still have to reach their home. Until they do, the stock is on hand but not yet pickable from where a picker would look.
Discrepancies and over-receipt
Section titled “Discrepancies and over-receipt”A discrepancyDiscrepancyAny difference between what the system expected and what was physically found — on a receipt, at a bin during picking, or in a count. Read more → is any line where received ≠ expected — short, over, or the wrong thing entirely. They are surfaced rather than quietly absorbed, because a supplier who consistently ships 98% is a fact worth having.
Over-receipt tolerance is a per-warehouse policy (/settings/warehouses/:id): how much more than expected the floor is allowed to book in before the app pushes back. Where a location has a capacity set, putaway also warns on over-receipt into a bin that cannot hold it.
Where expected receipts come from
Section titled “Where expected receipts come from”An expected receiptExpected receiptA delivery you are waiting on. It moves from expected, through being received, to received as the floor books it in line by line. Read more → is a delivery you are waiting on. Today those are created in Floormode — from a replenishment suggestion, a transfer, or entered directly.
