The reports
Section titled “The reports”| Report | Measures |
|---|---|
| Throughput | How much work went through, per period |
| Cycle time | How long an order took from paid to shipped |
| On-time ship | Whether you hit your own promise |
| Pick accuracy | How often the right thing was pulled |
| Returns | What is coming back, and why |
| COGS / margin | What you sold cost you, and what was left |
What each one is for
Section titled “What each one is for”Throughput is capacity planning. It tells you what a normal day looks like, which is the only way to know whether tomorrow is a busy day or a problem.
Cycle time is where delays hide. An order that took four days might have been picked in an hour and then sat waiting for a carrier collection — cycle time broken down by stage shows which.
On-time ship is the promise you made to the customer, measured. It is the number to quote when someone asks whether the operation is working.
Pick accuracy pairs with scan verification at pack. Scanning stops mis-ships from leaving the building; pick accuracy tells you how often it had to.
Returns by reason is a product-quality signal as much as a warehouse one. A SKU with an unusual “not as described” rate has a listing problem, not a picking problem.
COGS and margin
Section titled “COGS and margin”The COGS/margin report builds on the same weighted-average unit cost that drives stock value, tracked at ship and including landed cost. Because the cost is captured when the unit ships rather than recomputed later, margin reflects what that specific unit actually cost you.
