Warehouses (/settings/warehouses) connects each stock site to Shopify and holds its fulfillment settings.

Shopify location mapping
Section titled “Shopify location mapping”Each warehouse maps to a Shopify location. A warehouse that is not mapped carries a warning badge in the list.
Per-warehouse stock policies
Section titled “Per-warehouse stock policies”Set on each warehouse (/settings/warehouses/:id):
| Policy | What it does |
|---|---|
| Allow oversell / backorders | Permit selling beyond on hand. Off by default. |
| Capture payment on fulfillment | Take payment when the order ships rather than at checkout. |
| Expiry-first picking (FEFO) | Allocate the shortest-dated stock first. Every plan. |
| Over-receipt tolerance | How much more than expected the floor may book in. |
| Near-expiry window | How far ahead stock counts as approaching expiry. |
Per-warehouse is the right granularity for all of these. A distribution centre and a retail store shipping its own shelf stock should not share one oversell policy, and a site handling perishables needs FEFOFEFOFirst expired, first out: allocating the shortest-dated stock first so perishable goods leave before they expire. A per-warehouse policy on every plan. Read more → where a site shipping hardware does not.
Bins & pick path
Section titled “Bins & pick path”On the warehouse’s Layout tab (Settings → Warehouses → your warehouse).
The Layout tab is one list of your locations. Bins are the only places stock can live; zones, aisles, racks and shelves are optional groups whose order is the route pickers walk. Use Add bins for one bin or a numbered range, Add aisle, rack or shelf for a group, Generate bins… for a grid or a template, and Add bins here on any group row. Drag a row onto a group to move it inside, between rows to reorder, or use Move to… in the row menu. Flat bins work too: you can receive, store and pick stock without any group and without drawing a map.
Optional 2D map
Section titled “Optional 2D map”Open 2D map when a visual floor plan would help your team.
- Start with Rectangle, L shape or U shape, or draw connected floor areas for your building. Starter shapes appear only while the plan is empty.
- Find an existing location in the search list. Selecting it centers the canvas and opens its position and size fields.
- Move or resize locations to place them. Dashed outlines indicate suggested positions that have not been saved as placements.
- Add walls for partitions. Select a floor area or wall to adjust its dimensions or endpoints in the side panel.
Build directly on the map
Section titled “Build directly on the map”Choose Zone, Aisle, Shelving or Bin in Build locations. Click the map for a standard footprint or drag to choose its size. Check the location code and parent, then choose Place. A failed placement keeps your code and footprint so you can correct it and retry.
Shelving creates a container. Open its contents to add the bins inside it. You can also use Use standard footprint and the directional buttons with a keyboard. Escape cancels a pending placement.
Depth view gives bins and shelving a slight 3D appearance. Turn it off for the flat plan. This only changes the display. Faces stay inside the location footprint, so selection and map coordinates stay the same.
Layout Undo changes drawings and positions; it does not delete a location you created. Manage a location from Locations when you need to archive it.
Pan lets you drag anywhere, including over a rack. Scroll to zoom or use Zoom to fit. Double-click an aisle or rack, or choose Open contents, to arrange the next level.
Position and size fields apply when you leave the field or press Enter. The toolbar shows Saved, Saving… or Unsaved changes; while changes are unsaved, Save in the page’s save bar saves them at once. Undo and Redo cover the latest 50 edits in the current level, including an edit that has already saved. A drag counts as one edit. Use the toolbar or ⌘/Ctrl Z and ⌘/Ctrl Shift Z while the editor has focus. History resets when you create a location, leave a level or reload.
The size fields use map units. Physical walking previews use the building settings below; metre distances appear only after calibration. Manage locations returns to the location tools. Erasing a drawing never deletes a bin or its stock.
Storeys and walking routes
Section titled “Storeys and walking routes”Use Building settings to add storeys, name them and set a scale. Existing plans start on Ground floor. A building storey is separate from an aisle, rack level or Shopify location. Choose the storey above the map; the selection survives a reload.
Enter the metres represented by 100 map units. For example, if a 500-unit wall measures 50 metres, enter 10. Leave the value at zero if the scale is unknown. The preview then reports map units. Routes between storeys require a scale on the connected storeys.
Add stairs or lifts with one endpoint on each storey. Both endpoints must be on walkable floor. You can disable a connection or allow travel only from its first endpoint to the second. Carts use lifts. Traversal and lift-wait seconds are estimates separate from walking distance.
Use Blocking fixtures for the footprints of storage or equipment that people cannot walk through. A visual rack rectangle does not automatically block travel. Select a location and open Building placement to set its storey and the point a worker can approach from outside storage. Children share their physical parent’s storey. Moving a container to another storey clears its children’s approach points so they can be checked again. Stations have the same approach editor under Zones, stations & staff → Plan. That map draws one storey at a time: a station appears on the storey of its building placement, and in a building with several storeys a station without one is listed as No storey assigned until you choose its storey.
Save or discard building settings before editing the map. If another user changes the building while you edit, saving refuses the stale revision. Discard edits and reload saved layout restores the saved plan. Reassign mapped locations and stations before removing a storey.
Preview walking route checks a path through floor areas, around walls and blocking footprints, and through enabled connections. The calculation may use a coarser grid to stay within its work limit. Narrow gaps can remain unresolved; the preview does not promise the shortest possible path or vehicle-clearance measurements. Missing approaches, missing scales and unreachable paths are shown explicitly.
Pick batches also offer Remaining pick route. It follows the existing order from the first remaining bin to the saved destination station. Completed picks stay unchanged. At most 24 remaining lines are previewed; a partial preview does not draw a shortcut to the final station. Continue with the full pick list when the preview is partial or unavailable.
Zones, stations & staff
Section titled “Zones, stations & staff”Sub-page: /settings/warehouses/:id/work-areas.
Give staff their zones and skills, and define the stations they work at. This is what makes auto-assignment sensible: work routes to someone who is in the right part of the building and trained for the job, rather than to whoever is least busy on paper.
