Stock
Stock (/inventory/stock) shows per-variant stock across every warehouse, using Shopify’s own vocabulary rather than inventing a parallel one.

The four numbers
Section titled “The four numbers”| Number | Means |
|---|---|
| On handOn handThe units physically in the building right now, whether or not they are already promised to an order. Read more → | What is physically in the building. |
| CommittedCommittedUnits already promised to open orders and therefore no longer freely sellable, even though they are still on the shelf. Read more → | Already promised to open orders. |
| AvailableAvailableOn hand minus committed minus unavailable — what is left to sell after existing orders have taken their share and held-back stock (damaged, quality control, safety stock, a blocked lot's units) is set aside. It is the number Shopify shows as available. Read more → | On hand minus committed minus unavailable (damaged, quality control, safety stock and a blocked lot’s units) — what is left to sell. |
| IncomingIncomingUnits on an expected receipt that has not fully arrived — stock you have coming but cannot pick yet. Read more → | On a receipt that has not fully arrived. |
Using Shopify’s words matters more than it sounds. A merchant who already understands “committed” in the Shopify admin does not have to learn a second meaning here — the numbers reconcile because the vocabulary does.
Incoming is clickable: it drills straight into the Receiving tab, filtered to that product, so “where is my stock?” is one click rather than a search.
Drilling into a row
Section titled “Drilling into a row”Open any row for the per-warehouse breakdown. That view shows:
- The four numbers for each warehouse separately.
- Bin reservations — which bins are holding stock for which orders.
- The documents causing each number — the receipt behind an incoming figure, the orders behind a committed figure.
That last point is the one that ends arguments. A number you disagree with is traceable to the document that produced it, not just asserted.
Reordering from here
Section titled “Reordering from here”Low-stock rows offer + Reorder, which takes you to Insights → Replenishment already filtered to that SKU. You never have to re-find the product you were just looking at.
