Carriers & packaging

Settings → Carriers & packaging (/settings/carriers) holds the three things that turn a picked order into a parcel somebody collects.

  • Carrier accounts
  • Try it with the test carrier
  • Label printers
  • The box catalog

A carrier account is what turns a packed parcel into a bought label. Connect the accounts you actually ship with; Shipping then shows every rate across all of them, sorted by price and speed.

Freight carriers are configured here too — a ShipEngine LTL account for less-than-truckload, or Uber Freight for full-truckload. Uber Freight is apply-gated: request access first.

No carrier connected yet? Choose Use the test carrier — here, on the empty shipments list, or at the pack bench when a label cannot be bought. It is built in: nothing to sign up for, nothing to type.

  • Its one service, Test label, costs 0.
  • Its label is a real PDF you can print and reprint: the ship-to, the order, a TEST-… number, and in its largest type TEST LABEL: NOT VALID FOR SHIPPING. Voiding it only marks it void.
  • A parcel fulfilled with a test label is fulfilled in Shopify without tracking, even if a number is typed in, and no shipping confirmation goes to the customer — not from Shopify, not from Floormode. Webhooks and Shopify Flow hear nothing of a test label. Trying it on a real order never e-mails a tracking link that leads nowhere.

Label printing goes through PrintNode. With it connected, a bought label goes straight to the station printer; a picker never touches a file dialog.

Bin label printing from the Bins tab uses the same connection.

The box catalog is the set of packaging you actually own — each with its dimensions and, where relevant, its cost.

Read more → at the pack step chooses from this catalog: the cheapest suitable box for the items being packed, split across several where one will not do.

Two things make it work well:

  1. A complete catalog. A box you use but never entered cannot be chosen.
  2. Item dimensions on your products — see Item dimensions & capacity.

Without any boxes at all, nothing can be cartonized, which is why adding your boxes comes right after going live.

  • Pack — where the box catalog is used.
  • The setup flow — the four steps that come before packaging.
