Initial setup
Start with one warehouse and a few clearly named bins. You can add more locations, a detailed layout and automation as your team needs them. The setup flow on Home keeps track as you work.
Connect your Shopify locations
Section titled “Connect your Shopify locations”Your Shopify locations describe where your store holds stock. A Floormode warehouse connects one of those locations to its bins, stock and operating settings.
The import starts by itself when you first open the app; its progress sits on the one line above the setup guide on Home. You do not wait for it to finish before choosing a warehouse.
- Choose your warehouse. On Home, tick the Shopify location your team ships from and choose Set up with its name. Floormode creates the warehouse for it; no warehouse is created from a location by itself.
- Other locations. Add Shopify locations under the guide’s list offers the locations that are not warehouses yet. Tick each site you operate.
- To use a warehouse you already created, open it under Settings → Warehouses and change its location link on its Settings tab instead. New warehouse also supports sites without a Shopify location, such as a staging area.
Check the location name carefully if you also have retail stores or third-party fulfillment locations. An unlinked warehouse cannot keep Shopify’s quantities updated, and orders Shopify assigns to a location without a warehouse never reach the pick queue.
After the first import, Shopify updates continue automatically. You can run another import from Home when needed; importing store data alone does not book physical stock into bins.
Organize bins and stock
Section titled “Organize bins and stock”Start with named bins
Section titled “Start with named bins”On the warehouse page, Add 4 bins creates a starter set in one click. To build your own, use the Layout tab and add the places stock can sit, such as A-01, A-02 or SHELF-01. The layout’s order is the pick route, the order your team visits the bins. You can run a small warehouse with flat bins and no aisle hierarchy.
A binBinA specific place stock sits. Every bin has a type — receiving, quality check, quarantine, bulk, pick, packing, staging or returns — which tells the app how to treat what is in it. Read more → holds stock. Zones, aisles, bays and levels organize bins; they are not destinations for receiving goods.
Add a map if it helps
Section titled “Add a map if it helps”The 2D map is optional. Bins, receiving and picking work without drawing a floor plan or placing bins on a map.
For a larger site, organize the hierarchy on the warehouse’s Layout tab, then open its map to represent the floor. Add the map later if your first priority is getting stock into bins.
Put your Shopify stock on shelves
Section titled “Put your Shopify stock on shelves”The Stock tab on the warehouse page first asks Where is your stock today?, then Import into your warehouse reads the quantities Shopify holds at the warehouse’s location and books them into the unassigned bin. Orders can be picked from there. Give items their own bins before or after going live, on the same tab or with Put away.
- Existing stock in Shopify: import it here. Check the warehouse’s Shopify location link first.
- No stock in Shopify yet: there is nothing to import, and the step reads No stock in Shopify. Add stock in Shopify and the step comes back, or go live and receive goods as they arrive.
Importing does not delete or change Shopify quantities. Avoid recording the same opening balance both as an import and as a new receipt.
Review warehouse settings
Section titled “Review warehouse settings”Open Settings → Warehouses and your warehouse to check the policies that affect your operation, including overselling, payment capture, receiving tolerance and packing quality checks. Leave advanced rules for later unless your workflow requires them. Warehouse settings reference.
Prepare your first shipment
Section titled “Prepare your first shipment”- Add your packaging under Settings → Carriers & packaging. Enter the box sizes your team actually uses.
- Connect a carrier from Shipping so packed orders can receive shipping labels.
- Choose how to print labels. Connect PrintNode for direct printing, or skip this step to download label PDFs.
- Go live. Go live on the warehouse page checks Shopify’s quantities against the warehouse; when they match, orders for its location flow through Floormode and it keeps Shopify’s quantities updated. See Go live.
- Choose a plan under Settings → Billing. Setup works without one, but new orders are released to the floor only with a plan. On a development store, Shopify approves any plan as a free test charge.
Review your first order before releasing it: the correct warehouse, available stock, packaging and carrier should be in place. Finishing the setup steps confirms their checks; it does not release an order or buy a label.
Continue when you are ready
Section titled “Continue when you are ready”You can leave setup and use the rest of the app at any time. Hide setup folds the guide into one line on Home; Continue setup brings it back. Completed steps are detected from your saved configuration.
