Placement

Placement (/inventory/placement) is the advanced tab that decides where things live. Warehouse software calls it slotting.

  • Home bins and putaway rules
  • Re-slotting suggestions
  • Automatic refills

A home bin is where a given SKU belongs. When goods are put away, the app suggests the home bin rather than making the operator decide.

Behind that sit ordered putaway rules, evaluated top-down: the first rule that matches decides. Typical rules send fast movers near packing, heavy goods to floor level, and cold-chain or hazardous stock to their designated zones.

Demand moves. A SKU that was slow in March can be your best seller in November, and it is still sitting at the far end of the building.

Placement watches this and suggests moving fast movers closer to packing. Accepting a suggestion creates a move task in the fulfillment queue — so a re-slotting decision becomes real floor work someone actually does, rather than a report nobody actions.

Pick binsBinA specific place stock sits. Every bin has a type — receiving, quality check, quarantine, bulk, pick, packing, staging or returns — which tells the app how to treat what is in it. Read more → can be topped up from bulk storage automatically when they drop below a minimum. The refill appears as a task in the queue before the picker finds the bin empty, rather than after.

Probably not at first, which is why the tab is marked Advanced. Placement earns its keep once you have enough SKUs that walking distance is a real cost, and enough bulk stock that pick bins run dry mid-shift.

A warehouse with a few dozen bins and one person picking will do fine without ever opening it.
